Puma Rodríguez made his first appearance in the Primera División for the Atlantistas in a game against Ángeles de Puebla .

Before the coming 1986/87 season, Rodríguez was obliged by Club Deportivo Guadalajara and was part of the squad of the championship team that won the ninth league title in the club's history of the Rojiblancos . Because of his frequent knee injuries, which resulted in several operations, “the Puma” had to end his active career early.
