Académicos de Guadalajara

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Académicos de Guadalajara is the widely used and recently re-used name of a former Mexican soccer team that was founded as a branch team of the Guadalajara- based first division club Club Atlas .

Fourth division

The Zorritos ( Spanish for little foxes ), as the B-Team of the Club Atlas was also called based on the nickname of the mother club (Zorros, dt. Foxes), began playing in the fourth-class Tercera Division . Initially with no intention of being promoted to a higher division, the team took part (as was common at the time with many branch teams) at the Campeonato de Filiales and won it in the 1997/98 season. This was followed by the switch to the Campeonato de Ascenso , which was eligible for promotion , which the team won in winter 2001 (first half of the 2001/02 season).

Third division

At the beginning of the 2002/03 season, the "zorritos" were represented in the third-class Segunda División , which they won in the Clausura 2004 as well as in the subsequent Apertura 2005 in the third year of their participation , thus making both tournaments of the 2004/05 season theirs Decided in favor.

Second division

Through this success, the "zorritos" rose to the second-rate Primera División 'A' , in which they participated during the last four years of the existence of this league, until it was converted into the Liga de Ascenso and equipped with a changed concept. During these four years the team changed their location every year.

Coyotes de Sonora

First she played in the 2005/06 season under the name Coyotes de Sonora and found her quarters in Hermosillo , the capital of the state of Sonora . Under this name, she also completed the most successful season of her four-year membership in the second division in Apertura 2005 and advanced to the semi-finals of the Liguilla , where she won the eventual tournament winner Puebla FC (2: 1 and 0: 1) only because of the league fewer points scored (32 versus 33).

Académicos de Zapotlanejo

Before the 2006/07 season, the "zorritos" returned to the state of Jalisco and settled in the city of Zapotlanejo , north of Guadalajara , where they performed again under their original name "Académicos". In the Clausura 2007 they completed the worst second division playing time in their history and achieved just ten points in 17 games.

Académicos de Tonalá

In the 2007/08 season, the team was based in Tonalá and reached in the Apertura 2007 again the Liguilla, where they lost 1: 1 and 0: 3 against the Dorados de Sinaloa in the quarterfinals .

Académicos de Guadalajara

Before the 2008/09 season, the club returned to Guadalajara and were able to win just four of their 32 games, reaching 15 draws. In their last second division tournament, the Clausura 2009, they could only win one of their 16 matches. This victory was only achieved on the last day of the match 3-0 against Rayados 1A, the branch team of CF Monterrey .
