José Salomé Pina
José Salomé Pina (* 1830 in Mexico City , † June 7, 1909 in Tacubaya ) was a Mexican painter.
biography
Salomé Pina studied in his hometown under Pelegrín Clavé at the Academia de San Carlos . In 1854 he went to Rome on a scholarship. After a short stay in Mexico, he went to Paris for several years in 1856 and then to Italy for seven years to work and exhibit. In 1869 he succeeded Clavé from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de Academia de San Carlos; Clavés had retired two years earlier. During this time he went to Spain, where he copied some works in the Museo del Prado . Further work followed in Mexico, including the design of the Colegiata de Guadalupe and a copy of the portrait of Hernán Cortés .
