Pelegrín Clavé

Pelegrín Clavé i Roquer or y Roque or y Rogué (* 1811 in Barcelona ; † 1880 ibid) was a Spanish painter, whose Catalan -influenced artistic style mixed with that of Nazarene art .
Life
Clavé studied at the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona and as a scholarship holder from 1834 at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. There he met Friedrich Overbeck , among others . In 1846 he went to Mexico , where he painted various portraits, landscapes and historical pictures and, as director of the Academia Nacional de San Carlos de México , had a strong influence on the development of Mexican art with his Nazarene style of painting. In 1868 he returned to his hometown. Here he was accepted as a numbered member of the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.
