Jos Wilmots

Jos Wilmots (born July 15, 1933 in Truienaar ) is a Belgian Germanist and Dutch scholar .

After studying at the University of Leuven , where he studied German, in particular German philology, he was lecturer for Dutch at the universities of Göttingen, Bonn and Frankfurt from 1959 to 1966. In 1966 he became a lecturer at the Limburg Business School, which a few years later became part of the Limburg University Center and then renamed the University of Hasselt . In 1999 he retires.

In addition to his work as a German studies scholar, he is the founder of the summer school for Dutch language and culture at the University of Hasselt, which he directed for over 30 years. He stands out as the author of books and teaching materials for the language acquisition of Dutch.

In 2003 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic).
