Following the Voice of Blood is the third album by the Polish NSBM / pagan metal band Graveland . It was released in 1997 by No Colors Records and Eastclan. On September 30th, 2009 it was indexed by the Federal Inspectorate for Media Harmful to Young People (BPjM) .

Emergence

After the release of the Graveland album Thousand Swords , the band and Lethal Records separated due to differences in content. According to Darken, the release of Following the Voice of Blood was delayed because of problems with bassist Karcharoth after the album ... taur-nu-fuin ... by his band Infernum led to investigations among members of the band because of its Nazi content.

The album was recorded between September 25, 1996 and December 18, 1996 and mixed in the tuba studio in Breslau on the 23rd and 24th by Darken and Grzegorz Czachor.

Before the album was released, a rehearsal tape with two of the songs was released.

layout

The cover shows two warriors on a chariot against a gray sky full of ravens. The inlay shows a burning church and a wolf with an open mouth. On the back there is a picture of wolves in nature.

In the liner notes there is a text by Darken in which he calls for the fight against Jews and Christians and appeals to the pagan identity of the "white inhabitants of this country".

Music style and lyrics

Following the Voice of Blood , like Thousand Swords, is improperly produced and has folk influences, but is tonally more moderate. The album shows the development of the band “to a dense sound, bombastic melodies and political themes”, recognizable in the text White Hand's Power written by Absurd by JFN , which deals superficially with JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings , but is racist and can be interpreted as propagating a predominance of whites . Other lyrics sing about the fight against Christians, similar to the songs on Thousand Swords . Apart from the distinctive snare drum, the characteristic of this album is the thin guitar sound, which has very little distortion , but is still very raw.

Reviews

sic of Myrrthronth According Darken opposite has Thousand Swords "created even larger pieces - melodic-absorbing, moving" , but not as angry as in the predecessor. John Chedsey of Satan Stole My Teddybear described the keyboard intros and outros typical of Darken as bookends for a handful of similar-sounding songs. The music does not develop, the songs are long and by no means “epic”. With the album, the band presented a test of patience.
