Infernum is a Polish band that calls their own music " Pagan - Black Metal ". Their debut album … Taur-Nu-Fuin… is considered to be one of the first releases of the National Socialist Black Metal .

history

Infernum was founded in 1992 by Grzegorz "Karcharoth" Jurgielewicz and Tom Balrog in Wrocław . Soon after the founding, the first demo, The Dawn Will Never Come , came out, and after a few months the promo Damned Majesty was also launched. The promo CD also features a keyboard that was played by Robert "Rob Darken" Fudali from Graveland . Balrog left the band in late 1993 and was replaced by Graveland drummer Maciej "Capricornus" Dabrowski.

In 1994 Infernum released their debut … Taur-Nu-Fuin… on Astral Wings Records. Due to right-wing extremist content on this album and the cover, the Polish police became aware of Infernum and began investigations.

In 1995 work began on the second album When the Light Has Died… , but problems arose within the band and the Polish black metal scene. From When The Light Has Died ... three songs were recorded and as a cassette in the black metal underground widespread. According to Darken, Jurgielewicz suffered a nervous breakdown over the investigation and testified against the other members of the band, which, according to Darken and Capricornus, caused "serious problems". In addition, Karcharoth changed his political ideas every week and turned away from the right-wing extremist scene and turned to left-wing ideas. There were also rumors that he had joined the police. According to Darken, Karcharoth began "anti-Graveland campaigns" and accused him and Xanquoreth von Fullmoon of attempting to murder himself. In the fall of 1997, Jurgielewicz, who now called himself “Anextiomarus”, was admitted to a psychiatric clinic; According to Darken, he was schizophrenic and planned to travel to Norway to assassinate Darkthrone drummer Fenriz .

In the winter of 2002, Anextiomarus and Charon decided to reactivate Infernum; In early 2003 Necromanticus joined and shortly afterwards Wolf, Exterminus and Raphael. They worked on a new album ( The Curse ) for a couple of years until it was released by Sound Riot in 2004. After the suicide of Anextiomarus in 2004, shortly after the album was finished (either Walpurgis Night or May 7th is mentioned as the date of death on the old and new pages ), the band is continued by his friends as a kind of tribute what Anextiomarus' last will should have been. In May 2004 Darken and Capricornus also became active again under the Infernum, calling their band The True Infernum , claiming to be the true successor to Anextiomarus' band, so there were at one time two bands with the same name from the same town . Darken and Capricornus released an album in 2005 called Farewell , which also contains the songs from the demo When the Light Has Died… .

style

Infernum played on … Taur-Nu-Fuin… classic Black Metal with the keyboards typical of the Polish sound and the raw production. Occasionally, e.g. B. in the song Gammadion , wind noises and raven croaks were used. Compared to Graveland, the band became not only because of the identical line-up at the same time, but also because of the music and ideology. On Farewell , Darken and Capricornus largely retained the style, the production was similarly gruff and the atmosphere similar.

Karcharoth's project, however, turned into pagan metal . Although he also used some riffs from the When the Light has Died ... demo, but this album contained male and female clear vocals and was better produced than Farewell and ... Taur-Nu-Fuin ... . Huenengrab from Metal.de was particularly disturbed by the constantly playing keyboard, which is why he compared the band to freezing rain . On ... Taur-Nu-Fuin ... there are pieces with National Socialist content, as subjects of their texts in the phase from 2002 Necromanticus indicated paganism and occultism and as ideology the hatred of Christianity.

Akhenaten by Judas Iscariot described Infernum on his website on the Polish black metal scene as another face of the band Graveland in their Thousand Swords era. The band Weltmacht , whose line-up includes Akhenaten, was named after Infernum's song Weltmacht or Nidergang [sic!] .
