Josef Delz Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Josef Delz Prize is a prize from the Swiss Association of Classical Philologists to promote Latin in schools. Since the 2006/2007 school year, Latin Studies at the University of Basel has been offering a prize in memory of Josef Delz (1922–2005) to recognize outstanding achievements in Latin.

The aim of the Josef Delz Prize is to recognize pupils for their studies and their hard work on topics in the Latin language and literature that they achieve at the Matura or equivalent work. The primary aim of the award is to recognize written work that emerges from Latin lessons and relates to the Latin language, Roman literature, Roman history, philosophy and the reception of Roman literature. But also works that deal with Middle and New Latin texts of the region or Switzerland are to be awarded.

Matura theses, but also written papers that are written by high school students outside of the Matura and show a first step towards independent academic work, can be submitted.
