Josef Gassner (politician, 1890)

Josef Gassner (born July 26, 1890 in Sigmundsherberg ; † August 22, 1969 there ) was an Austrian railway conductor and politician ( SPÖ ). Gassner was a member of the state parliament of Lower Austria and a member of the Federal Council .

Gassner attended the elementary and community school and then joined the Austrian Federal Railways. He became a shop steward in 1910 and did military service in 1918. Gassner was a local councilor in Sigmundsherberg from 1918 to 1934 and was imprisoned from 1934 to 1936 after the February fighting was suppressed . Gassner was imprisoned again in 1938 and 1944.

After the Second World War Gassner was elected chairman of the district party and was mayor of Sigmundsherberg from 1945 to 1962. After he had already been a member of the Lower Austrian Landtag between May 11, 1921 and May 20, 1927, he again represented the SPÖ on this body between December 12, 1945 and November 6, 1954. He was also a member of the Federal Council from May 20, 1927 to February 17, 1934.
