Josef Grisar

Josef Grisar SJ (born November 26, 1886 in Koblenz , † August 7, 1967 in Meran ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian , church historian and priest .

Life

Grisar entered the German Province of the Society of Jesus on April 29, 1906 and was ordained a priest on August 12, 1917 in Valkenburg aan de Geul . After his training in the order and after studies at the University of Munich , he taught church history at the Order University in Valkenburg from 1923. In 1932 he was appointed to the newly established Church History Faculty of the Gregorian University. His extensive archival research focused on the life story of Maria Ward and the founding history of her Institute of the English Misses .
