Josef Hermann Bernhard (born May 18, 1925 in Tettnang- Holzhäusern) is a German computer scientist and cyberneticist , emeritus professor for systems theory , control and regulation technology at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences .

Life

During his studies at the TH Stuttgart, Bernhard focused on communications technology, control and regulation technology. Since 1958 he taught at the engineering school in Essen. In 1962 he and others founded the Düsseldorf Engineering School on behalf of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which was transferred to the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in 1971. From 1974 he was professor for systems theory and control engineering until his retirement in 1990 in the electrical engineering department.

Bernhard promoted the introduction of the new computer science course at universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, among other things in state parliament hearings in the early 1970s. The translation of the legacy of cybernetics founder Norbert Wiener Gott & Golem Inc. , whose German translation was edited by Josef Hermann Bernhard and his wife Lieselotte Bernhard, was groundbreaking for the interdisciplinary discussion of systems theory . Bernhard aims to demonstrate the comprehensive applicability of systems theory and cybernetics in all areas of science, also outside of natural science and technology. He has had a lively friendship with Prof. Dr. Heinz Kronmüller (from 1970 to 1992 head of the institute for process measurement technology and process control technology (today institute for industrial information technology) at the TH Karlsruhe).
