Josef Istler
Josef Istler (born November 13, 1919 in Prague ; † June 19, 2000 there ) was a Czech painter .
Life
Josef Istler is more or less self-taught . He studied privately in Yugoslavia with the Swiss painter Walter Hofer (1904–1994) and was influenced by the work of Toyen and the surrealist artists who were in contact with Karel Teige . From 1945 he joined various artists' associations. Mention should be made of Manes and the surrealist group Ra . Istler took part in the CoBrA exhibitions that took place in Amsterdam in 1949 and in Liège in 1951 .
Istler participated in numerous group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad. His works are represented in the National Gallery in Prague , in numerous circular galleries in the Czech Republic, in the Tate Gallery in London, in the Center Georges-Pompidou in Paris, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, in the Museum Bochum and in museums in Munich, as well as Stockholm and Geneva.
