Josef Pretterer (* 1948 near Cologne ) is a German puppeteer and cabaret artist .

Career

After completing primary school and an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman, he studied illustration at the University of Applied Sciences for Art and Design in Cologne. In 1969 he was appointed a master class student. After completing his studies, he stayed in Colombia as a guest lecturer at the Academy of Arts in Bogotá . Back in Germany, Josef Pretterer went into business for himself in 1976 and worked on cartoons and picture stories for the television stations WDR, NDR, BR and DW. Here he also created creatures for programs such as " Sesame Street ", " Die Sendung mit der Maus ", " Janosch ", "Traumstunde" etc. As an illustrator, he worked for the magazines " Stern ", " Bunte ", and "Fernweh", among others. , as well as for parent / child magazines e.g. B. "Living and Education" and "Mobile". He also illustrated a number of books, games and magazines for children. In 1984 he summed up his desire to travel and his curiosity about other countries in the cartoon book “Michbrennt's in my travel shoes”. In 1992, Pretterer discovered puppetry for adults and built his first puppets. He performed with them at trade fairs and events for several years. His programs are played by him in theaters, cabaret stages and at puppet theater festivals throughout German-speaking countries. There are now more than 50 large and small figures in his “ensemble”.
