Josef Settele

Josef Settele (born May 23, 1961 in Marktoberdorf ) is a German biologist, scientist and professor at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ and lepidopterologist .

Life

Settele began studying agricultural biology at the University of Hohenheim in 1982 . In 1985 he did research in the Philippines. In 1988 he passed his diploma on the Effects of intensification of the rice terrace system on terrestrial arthropod communities . Between 1989 and 1992 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Agroecology of the Tropics and Subtropics at the University of Hohenheim, where he received his doctorate in 1992 . Since 1993 he has been working at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ . From 1997 and 2002 he was a private lecturer in landscape and agroecology at the University of Hohenheim. Since November 2002 he has been a private lecturer in ecology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

His specialty is butterfly science (lepidopterology), about which he wrote several books. Josef Settele works on nature conservation and the evolution of insects. He is concerned with biodiversity in relation to land use.
