The Josefschule is a Catholic primary school in the Essen district of Kupferdreh . The school is located on Byfanger Strasse and consists of three wings.

history

On May 31, 1893, the construction of the primary school began and on October 9, 1893 the school was already occupied. Joseph Schütte from Frintrop was the first headmaster at the school. From 1893 to 1932 he carried out this activity. In 1940, the many war events also had a very strong impact on the school. Classrooms were mainly needed for the emergency services and security service and for billeting a few soldiers. The school used to be called "Heidberg School". By resolution of the school committee of the city of Essen, the "Heidbergschule" got its old name "Josefschule" back after a while. On October 9, 1953, the city school celebrated its 60th anniversary because it was unable to celebrate the “Golden Jubilee” during World War II . In the 2006/2007 school year, the open all day started at the Josefschule. Today around 100 children are cared for in four groups. Since 1990 the Josefschule has belonged solely to the Josefschülern. At that time, all classes at the Hinsbeck School moved into their own building on Schwermannstrasse.

In the course of time, the existing buildings of the Josefschule were expanded to include a pavilion with a total of four classrooms and two differentiation rooms. There are three gyms, a swimming pool and a sports field available for physical education in Kupferdreh.

Due to the increasing number of students registering, an extension is being planned on the Josefschule site. This is intended primarily to serve the neighboring Hinsbeck School.
