Joseph Beuys Media Archive

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Joseph Beuys Media Archive is an institution in collaboration with the "National Gallery in Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart Berlin - State Museums in Berlin" and the "Joseph Beuys Estate" (behind which the family of Beuys' widow Eva Beuys stands), Dusseldorf. It collects, archives and publishes media by the German artist Joseph Beuys .

founding

The archive was opened on November 5, 1996 with two world premieres. On the one hand with a double projection of “Coyote III”, an action that Beuys performed together with Nam June Paik in Tokyo . On the other hand with a performance by Takehisa Kosugi , who performed a score by John Cage that was previously considered unplayable . The score was a present from Cage to Beuys on his 60th birthday.

media

The media, film and audio documents by and about Joseph Beuys and his work, are collected, archived and digitized in order to make them accessible to both researchers and the public. Furthermore, they are compiled in a series of publications, in whose publications the context of the work is documented, so that the set and cinematic work can be viewed in its relationship to the entire work.
