Journal de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (J. Math. Pures Appl.) Is a French mathematics journal founded in 1836 by Joseph Liouville . Liouville was the editor until 1874 and the journal was often called Liouville's Journal at that time . He named it based on the Annales de mathématiques pures et appliquées (Annales de Gergonne), which ceased publication in 1832. It appears monthly and has been published by Elsevier since 1997 , previously by Gauthier-Villars .

The magazine is the second oldest still appearing mathematical magazine after the journal for pure and applied mathematics . It has been edited by leading mathematicians in France with a focus on analysis, for example Jean Leray , Jacques-Louis Lions , Paul Malliavin and Pierre-Louis Lions , who is currently (2019) editor. The language used to be French and English and now English.

The ISSN of the printed version is 0021-7824.
