The Journal of Molecular Modeling ( J. Mol. Model. ) Is a peer-reviewed , normally bi-monthly peer-reviewed journal in the field of computational chemistry .

When it was founded in 1995, it was probably the first journal in this field to pursue a purely electronic publication ( ISSN  0948-5023 ) in order to keep the publication times as short as possible. However, even then there were already printed annual volumes in which all contributions were available in one print edition. In the meantime, the magazine has transformed into a “normal” trade magazine, the issues of which appear in print.

Unlike many other chemistry journals, J. Mol. Model. no variable cover image selected from the authors' submissions.

In the first few years after its founding, the entire editorial work of the magazine ( editing , post-processing, printing typesetting ) was done by Tim Clark ( University of Erlangen-Nuremberg ) and doctoral students from his working group. The steadily increasing number of correspondence made it necessary to reorganize the work processes. The publisher is now having the typesetting done abroad ( India ).

The impact factor for 2017 was 1.507. According to the statistics of the ISI Web of Knowledge , the journal with this impact factor ranks 223rd out of 289 journals in the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology category , 52nd out of 73 journals in the Biophysics category, and 66th in the Multidisciplinary Chemistry category out of 157 journals and 34th out of 102 journals in the Computer Science and Interdisciplinary Applications category.
