Journal of the History of Sexuality

The Journal of the History of Sexuality (short form: JHS ) is an academic journal that has been published three times a year since 1990 . The journal is peer-reviewed and listed in the OPAC ( ISSN  1043-4070 ) .

Until 1998 the magazine appeared four times a year, in 1999 no issue appeared and since 2000 the regular publication has been continued with the ninth year. In March 1990, the sexual historians was John C. Fout from Bard College published the first edition. The magazine was published by the University of Chicago Press . At the time, Fout emphasized in his foreword that one of the magazine's concerns was to expand the strongly medical area of sexology through a different perspective. 1999 brought numerous changes, Fout resigned as editor and the publisher moved to the University of Texas Press . The new editors were Barbara Loomis and William N. Bonds , both employees of the Historical Institute and the Human Sexuality Studies Program at San Francisco State University . The new editors emphasized that the Journal will continue to present high quality, original articles on the history of sexuality, written by international scholars in various disciplines.
