Journey Into Self is an American documentary from 1969 .

The psychologists Dr. Carl Rogers and Dr. Richard Farson lead an eight-person therapy group. The group members come from a variety of professions: theology student, teacher, school principal, housewife, business man and cashier.
The film focuses on four of the members. The housewife can only feel affection for her cat. The Eurasian woman no longer wants to be seen as a “doll”, but as a woman. The businessman who thinks he doesn't need anyone is afraid of being rejected. A black woman whose desire to help others is afraid of being rejected because of her skin color.
Working together and having conversations in the group makes people aware of their fears.

In 1969 the film was awarded an Oscar in the category Best Documentary .
The film Young Americans originally won an Oscar. But because of a formal error, the victory was canceled and Journey Into Self was named an Oscar winner in 1969.
