Joyce Weisbecker
Joyce Weisbecker (* 1958 in New Jersey ) is an American engineer and the first woman in the history of video game development.
life and work
Weisbecker was born in New Jersey to the engineer Joseph Weisbecker , who worked for the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and designed computers in his spare time. She learned to program her father's prototypes and developed games for the RCA Studio II console while studying at Rider University . As a demonstration project, she developed two games for the RCA COSMAC VIP, which are then included in the computer manual as input programs in the CHIP-8- Source code were included. With the quiz game "TV Schoolhouse", she programmed her first commercial game within a week and received $ 290 from RCA. In 1977 she developed three more games, but then decided to continue her studies. In 1980 she completed her studies in actuarial mathematics and computer science . In 1998 she completed her degree in electrical engineering , a master's in computer science and then worked as an engineer in radar signal processing.
