Juan Manuel Cotelo Oñate (born 1966 in Madrid ) is a Spanish journalist, director, screenwriter, producer and actor. He is a member of the Academy of Arts and Film Studies in Spain.

Life

Cotelo graduated from the University of Navarre . In 1988 he started working on television as an editor and later became editor-in-chief of the international agency EditMedia TV in Madrid and then worked for various companies, including Globomedia .

He was an actor in the film The Torremolinos Homevideos (2002) and the series El Internado, among others .

At the age of 30, Cotelo wrote, directed and produced his first feature film: The Sweat of the Nightingales (1998), which also won an award.

In 2008 he founded the film production company Infinito + 1 and its distribution as well as the Infinito Foundation , which helps people in need in all the countries where Infinito + 1's films appear.

His first production was the documentary La última cima (2008), which was shown in 18 countries. It is based on the life of Pablo Domínguez Prieto , a Madrid priest who died in February 2009 when he reached the top of Moncayo at the age of 42.

In 2013, Cotelo directed the film Mary's Land , which was shown in 32 countries and is about the apparitions of Mary in Međugorje (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

In 2016 he directed the documentary Footprints about pilgrimage experiences on the Camino de Santiago . As with the previous documentaries, Footprints became one of the most watched documentaries of the year in Spain.

In 2017, Cotelo began producing The Greatest Gift ( El Mayor Regalo ), a film about forgiveness and reconciliation with testimonies around the world. The film premiered in Spanish cinemas on November 9, 2018, and hit Austrian cinemas on January 24, 2019.

Cotelo is married and has three daughters.
