Youth One World - Don Bosco Aktion Österreich is an independent Austrian aid organization based in Vienna. His focus is on national and international youth welfare, sustainable development cooperation and short-term disaster relief . It is mainly financed by private donations from the Catholic area.

The aid organization orients itself in all of its activities on the UN human rights approach and strives to contribute to the implementation of the 17 sustainable development goals - in particular goal no. 4 "High quality education". Under the motto "Education overcomes poverty", the non-profit association has been supporting aid projects, schools, street children programs and educational projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe since 1997. Jugend Eine Welt acts out of Christian motivation in the spirit of the social pioneer Don Bosco and works with members of the worldwide Don Bosco movement in the implementation of aid projects.

In Austria, the association carries out development education work such as the “Street Children Day” campaign, supports numerous social initiatives, is committed to fair investment and is actively committed to a fairer world. Jugend Eine Welt gives people of all ages the opportunity to work actively in a social project as part of a volunteer assignment lasting several months.

The association is active in various platforms and networks. International z. B. in the Consortium for Street Children and in the Don Bosco Youth Net, national z. B. in NGO umbrella organization AG Global Responsibility. Jugend Eine Welt is also a (co-) sponsor or member of various civil society organizations (including Don Bosco Refugee Agency, VOLONTARIAT moves, BAOBAB - Global Learning, FAIRTRADE Austria, ECPAT, Clean Clothes Campaign). The aid organization has also been a proven partner of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and Austrian development cooperation for many years. history

Reinhard Heiserer went to Ecuador as a development worker in the 1990s and helped, among other things, with the construction of a new street children's center. In Austria he founded the association with other young Austrian volunteers, development workers and friends of Don Bosco in June 1997, which today is one of the most important aid organizations in Austria and is constantly developing. In 2016 the service point “WeltWegWeiser” and in 2017 the secondment program “Senior Experts Austria” for qualified senior citizens were created.

Motivation and project partner

The work of the predominantly volunteer staff is motivated in the spirit of the youth saint Don Bosco (1815–1888), through whose commitment 250 youth houses were built in Europe and Latin America until his death , in which around 130,000 boys have been accepted and around 18,000 apprentices trained since 1846 .

The foreign project partners of Jugend eine Welt are the Salesians Don Bosco (SDB) and the Don Bosco Sisters (FMA) who work on site. The approximately 16,000 Salesians today work in 130 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe, the 14,300 sisters in over 90 countries. They give the organization the necessary information about where help is most needed and how most effective, and also form a kind of educational network .

Voluntary work

From 1997 to 2012 volunteer work by young people in Don Bosco projects was organized and supported by. Since 2013, the volunteer work has been carried out by the sponsoring association VOLONTARIAT moves, a joint initiative of Jugend Eine Welt Österreich and the Salesians of Don Bosco. Donation seal of approval and deductibility for donations

The Austrian seal of approval for donations confirms the proper handling of donations. Every year a sworn auditor checks the proper accounting, the economy and profitability and the appropriated use of funds. This gives donors maximum transparency about the use of their funds. Jugend Eine Welt has been wearing the seal of approval for donations since it was introduced in 2001. Donations to Jugend Eine Welt Österreich have been tax deductible for private individuals and companies since January 1st, 2009. With the number SO 1211, Jugend Eine Welt is registered with the tax office as a tax-privileged organization.

Street Children's Day

The “Street Children's Day” was launched in 2009 by Jugend Eine Welt. Since then, the aid organization has been calling on school classes, youth groups and parishes in particular to deal with the situation of street children on the occasion of Don Bosco's commemoration day on 31 January draw attention to the difficult living conditions of street children.
