Youth Act of the GDR

The Youth Act of the German Democratic Republic was passed on January 28, 1974 by the People's Chamber of the German Democratic Republic (Law Gazette of the German Democratic Republic 1974, Part I, page 45) and on August 31, 1990 by the Unification Treaty (Federal Law Gazette 1990, Part II, Page 889).

The Youth Act consisted of nine chapters:

  • I. The development of young people into socialist personalities
  • II. The promotion of the initiative of the working youth
  • III. Promoting the initiative of young people who are learning and studying
  • IV. The right and duty of honor of young people to protect socialism
  • V. The development of a culturally rich life of youth
  • VI. The development of physical culture and sport among the youth
  • VII. The creation of working and living conditions for young people
  • VIII. The organization of holidays and tourism for young people
  • IX. The management of the state tasks of socialist youth policy.
