The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Lower Austria is the largest youth orchestra in the State of Lower Austria with around 80 musicians between the ages of 15 and 22.

history

In 1975 the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Lower Austria was founded by the Lower Austrian Music School . The aim was to give strings from smaller music schools opportunities to play an orchestra. In 1978 the original string orchestra was expanded to include wind instruments and expanded to become a symphony orchestra. Originally only summer seminars were envisaged, due to the great interest the rehearsals were extended to several dates a year, the lecturers come from the ranks of the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler .

The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Lower Austria is the largest youth orchestra project with music students in the state. In 2009, 30 of the 136 Lower Austrian music schools are represented. The 80 musicians between the ages of 15 and 22 meet for rehearsal camps three to four times a year. The team of teachers consists of professional musicians from the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich . The conductors change every two years. 2008 and 2009 Nicholas Carthy, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Ernst Kovacic. From 2013 to 2017 Martin Braun was the artistic director of this orchestra. Since 2018 Vladimir Prado. In this way, the young people get to know different artistic approaches and have the opportunity to get to know major symphonic works in the course of their musical training and to develop them under professional guidance.
