The youth circus theater RatzFatz is an "open working group" of the Goethe School Bochum and the variety show "etCetera". It was founded in 1994 by Thorsten Krawinkel, Holger Ehrich and Jochen Kaymer. Today only Jochen Kaymer is the director of the circus. The artists are young people between 10 and 18 years of age who practice in various working groups and perform together regularly.

history

The RatzFatz circus theater was founded in 1994 as an open working group at the Goethe School in Bochum. The founders were Thorsten Krawinkel (graduate chemist, freelance juggler and former Goethe student), Holger Ehrich (freelance comedian and juggler) and Jochen Kaymer (teacher for social sciences and sport and ball artist). Jochen Kaymer was the head of this open working group until 2018.

The circus developed rapidly and had its first major appearance in 1995 at Circus Roncalli in front of around 2000 spectators. In the years to come, the number of appearances increased and some had a lasting impact on the popularity of the circus, especially a television appearance in 1998 on the series "Logo" on ZDF. The year 2000 is outstanding, in which the Varieté "etCetera" was established in Bochum and has maintained an intensive cooperation with the RatzFatz circus to this day.

The circus theater has been on tour in a European country once a year since 2003. This is made possible by sponsors.

The circus grew significantly up to 2011 and broke away from a typical “children's circus cliché”.
