The festival was founded in 2008 by young Chilean actors from Punta Arenas , the capital of the Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena , due to the lack of cultural offerings in southern Chile. In the first year the organizers struggled with funding and space problems and so performances took place in a gym, in a former prison and in a container. Due to the success, the support of the Chilean Ministry of Culture was obtained and the second version of the festival secured. Due to the closure of the only theater in Punta Arenas, the festival has been taking place in the original premises since 2009. In addition, there have been performances in public spaces since 2010. In 2010 pieces from Argentina and Peru were invited and the festival took place for the first time in the surrounding cities of Puerto Williams and Puerto Natales . In 2011 works from Argentina, Brazil and Spain were performed.
