Puerto Natales is a city of 19,319 inhabitants in the municipality of Natales , the largest of the Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena (Region XII) in Chile .
The port city of Puerto Natales is the capital of the province of Última Esperanza . It is located 247 km northwest of Punta Arenas on the Última Esperanza Fjord. It was founded in 1911.

Tourists can also visit the penguin colonies in Otway Bay near Punta Arenas. Trips to the Serrano, Balmaceda and Gray glaciers are also interesting .
Juan Fernández Ladrillero was the first to explore the area around Puerto Natales in 1557 on his way to the Strait of Magellan . The natives Kawéskar and Aonikenk lived in the area . In the 18th and 19th centuries, many immigrants from Germany and England immigrated. The area is mainly used for sheep breeding. The historical museum of Puerto Natales, which is located in a former "frigorifico", a cold store in Victorian style, gives an insight.
The climate is rough all year round, mostly paired with cold winds.
