Alm, who started for the Yläkemijoen Urheilijat, ran in Lahti for the first time in the World Cup in January 1995 and finished 70th in the 15 km freestyle. In January 1998 he got his only World Cup points in Kawgolowo with the 28th place over 30 km freestyle. In his only Olympic participation in February 1998 in Nagano , he achieved the 54th place over 50 km freestyle. He completed his 12th and last individual World Cup race in March 1999 in Lahti, which he finished classically in 69th place over 15 km.
