Juha Jaako Luhtanen (born December 12, 1969 in Lahti ) is a former Finnish basketball player .

Life

Luhtanen is from Lahti and spent a year at Elk Grove High School in the United States as a teenager in the mid-1980s . The 1.93 meter tall player was a member of the first division team Pantterit in 1989/90. Luhtanen left his home country again in the fall of 1990 and studied at the University of Mississippi in the United States. By 1993 he played 77 games for the university team, his best statistical values ​​he reached during the 1992/93 season with 6.4 points and 1.9 rebounds on average.

Following his return to Finland, Luhtanen played for Lahden NMKY in his hometown, where he scored 19.7 points on average in the 93/94 season and then worked for Tapiolan Honka from 1994 to 1996. Luhtanen, known as a good three-shooter, was also a top performer there. For the 1996/97 season he moved to TuS Herten in the German basketball league , for which he scored an average of 15.0 points per match. During the summer break of 1997 he changed within the Bundesliga and joined MTV Giessen . He played 26 Bundesliga games for Mittelhessen (8.6 points / game).

After two years in the Bundesliga, Luhtanen returned to his home country in 1998, playing for the first division club Lahden NMKY until 2002. Luhtanen was a Finnish national player (111 senior internationals), he took part in the 1995 European Championship and scored 4.8 points per match during the tournament.

Professionally, he worked in the management of the Luhta clothing company, which is owned by the Luhtanen family.
