Jukka Tapio Matinen (born November 6,  1978 in Kerava ) is a former Finnish basketball player .

career

Pantterit Helsinki was in the 1995/96 season Matinens first club in the Finnish top division, Korisliiga . 1996/97 he played for New Wave Helsinki, his breakthrough in the league came in 1997/98 when he scored an average of 11.8 points in 28 Korisliiga appearances for Helsingin NMKY .

From 1998 to 2000, the 2.03 meter tall winger was under contract with Torpan Pojat (ToPo), and in 2000 he was the Finnish runner-up with the team. Matinen drew attention to himself in the 1999/2000 season, in which he won silver with ToPo with 12 points per game.

He switched to Espoon Honka . In 2001 and 2002 he was the Finnish champion with the team from the city of Espoo . His good performance in the 2001/02 game year (14.3 points / encounter) earned him a contract with the German Bundesliga club Skyliners Frankfurt , which he strengthened between 2002 and 2006. With Frankfurt Matinen was German champion in 2004 and runner-up in 2005. In winning the championship in the 2004/05 season, Matinen was involved in 41 Bundesliga games with 7.1 points per encounter. The Finn made a total of 124 appearances in the top German league. He made a name for himself in Frankfurt as an important supplementary player with good defensive work and a safe throw from distance.

After his four years in the Bundesliga, the winger returned to his home country and played again for Espoon Honka. In the 2006/07 season he reached the Korisliiga with 16.8 points per match, his career best as a professional basketball player. He became Finnish champion with Honka in both 2007 and 2008. In 2011 he left the team and played at KTP-Basket in the city of Kotka until his retirement in 2015 . In 2013 Matinen became Finnish runner-up with KTP. He played a total of 611 Korisliiga games (11.3 points / stake).

Matinen was a Finnish national player and took part in the 2009 European Championships and the 2005 and 2007 European B Championships.
