Julia Marton-Lefèvre

Julia Marton-Lefèvre (* 1946 in Budapest , Hungary ) was Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) from 2007 to 2014 .

In 1957 she fled Hungary with her parents Endre and Ilona Márton to the USA via Vienna. She studied history, ecology and environmental planning in the USA and France.

She is Vice-Chair of the World Resources Institute and a member of numerous bodies and commissions such as the International Institute for Environment and Development (IEED), 1997-2005 Managing Director of Leadership for Environment and Development International (LEAD) (in New York and then in London) and on the Board of Trustees of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina .

She was the rector of the University for Peace , a United Nations-founded organization with a main campus near San José , Costa Rica .

Julia Marton-Lefèvre was made a Knight of the Chevalier de Legion d'Honneur in 2008.

She is a member of the World Future Council .
