Julia Carpenter

Julia Tischler (* 1982 in Stuttgart ) is a German historian and university professor.

Julia Tischler studied history and English from 2000 to 2006 at the University of Cologne and the University of Stirling . She then completed a doctoral degree in Modern History in Cologne until 2011, interrupted by various research stays. For her doctoral thesis on late colonial development policy using the example of the Kariba Dam in today's Zambia / Zimbabwe , she was awarded the Hedwig Hintze Prize of the Association of German Historians (VHD). 2012–2015 she was a research assistant at the International Humanities College “Work and Curriculum Vitae in Global History” at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Julia Tischler has been an assistant professor for African history with tenure track at the University of Basel since August 1, 2015 . Her research areas are social, scientific and environmental history as well as colonialism and modern agricultural history with a focus on southern Africa.
