Julius Commentz

Herrmann Christoph Julius Commentz ( 1851 - 1902 ) was a German merchant from Altona .

Commentz founded Juls in 1877 . Commentz candy, chocolate and sugar goods factory Altona-Ottensen in Winterstrasse. The factory predominantly produced sweets, especially "wrapped cream sweets". The brand name was "Hannelore-Butter-Karamellen", named after the granddaughter of the company founder.

Another product from Commentz was "the lollipop on style". It is also said to have been named after Hannelore Commentz: In the family she was nicknamed "Lolli", a name that is still used today for the permanent lollipop . The product was advertised with the slogan “Rirarutsch JCAO-Lutsch”, with “JCAO” standing for “Julius Commentz Altona Ottensen”. Other sources see the origin of the term "lollipop" in the USA, where it is said to have been used 200 years ago.
