Julius Drescher

Julius Drescher (* 20th May 1920 in Brilon , † 8. June 2015 ) was a German politician of the SPD . From 1956 to 1958 and 1961 to 1963 he was mayor of Brilon and from 1956 to 1962, 1963 to 1966 and 1968 to 1980 a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament .

education and profession

After attending elementary school and the humanistic grammar school, he did military service from 1938 and took part in the Second World War as a soldier until 1945. He then worked in his parents' surveying office from 1945 to 1949, which he headed as managing director from 1949. In addition, in 1952 he became chairman of the Brilon workers' welfare organization.


Drescher's party joined the SPD in 1946, became the first chairman of the Brilon local association in 1949 and a member of the city council of Brilon in 1948.

Deputy
Drescher was a member of the Brilon district council from 1948 to 1974. He was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament from October 29, 1956 to July 20, 1962, from August 26, 1963 to July 23, 1966 and from July 10, 1968 to May 28, 1980. The state parliament elected him a member of the federal assemblies in 1949, 1959 and 1964.

Public offices

From 1956 to 1958 and from 1961 to 1963 he was mayor of the city of Brilon.

Julius Drescher Prize

The Julius Drescher Prize of the SPD in the Hochsauerland is named after him. Previous winners were Friedhelm Schumacher (2010), Ensible e. V. (2012), Integration Council of the City of Arnsberg (2015)
