Jumenbao

Jumenbao ( Chinese  拒 門 堡  /  拒 门 堡 , Pinyin jùménbǔ ) is a fortress on the Great Wall of China from the time of the Ming Dynasty near Datong in Shanxi Province .

Jumenbao is on a slope 2.5 km from the Great Wall. The fortress was built to protect the Ming Empire against the invasions and pillage of the Mongol nomads . The original name was Jumengbu, it was together with the fortresses Zhenjiangbao (镇 羌 堡), Juqiangbao (拒 墙 堡) and Zhumabao (助 马) part of a defensive system belonging to the wall ( 塞外 四 堡 , Saiwai sibao  - "Four fortresses north the Great Wall ”).

The fortress is not big, it only has a wengcheng (entrance via barbican ) on the east side. The wall is built of rammed earth, with mud bricks as the exterior cladding.
