The Jungle Street Groove (abbreviated JSG) is a Techno Parade in Basel , similar to the Street Parade in Zurich . In contrast to this, the Jungle Street Groove Music Parade is a bit smaller because the event is not run commercially. The JSG takes place on the 2nd Saturday in August every two years.
history
The JSG started spontaneously in 1995 when about 100 people danced against the nuclear tests in France. In 1996 the first official JSG took place with one car and about 300 people. Over the years, the move has grown and in 2004 counted 12 groove trucks and around 7,000 people, in the last edition in 2018 around 13,000 people and 13 groove trucks.
In 2005 the JSG did not take place in the usual form. Some members of the organizing team had split up because of differences of opinion and won the bid for a demonstration parade with the counter-event Beat on the Street . The two teams have now agreed to have their move take place alternately every year and also work together at the authority level to maintain your events.
music
The main genres that are played by DJs or live on the groove trucks are jungle , drum and bass , breakbeats and minimal techno , often accompanied by an MC .
route
The route has changed several times over the years. It originally ran from Barfüsserplatz, then for a long time from Münsterplatz over the Wettstein Bridge into Kleinbasel and there along the Rhine to the level of the barracks. From 2011, due to increasing circulation and construction sites, it was only possible to start directly from Theodorsgraben in Kleinbasel. The route thus had a significantly short distance for several years.
In 2015, the end of the parade could then be relocated from the Mittlere Brücke to the port of Basel on Klybeckquai. As a result, a follow-up event with sound until 10 p.m. by the groove trucks and up to 24 hrs by the local bars & projects could be realized there on the Ex-Migrol area.
