Beat on the Street (BotS) is a drum and bass , jungle , dubstep , dance hall , hip-hop , 80`90` pop, punk , metal , minimal music styles, the annual music parade alternating with jungle street groove on the banks of the Rhine in Basel in Switzerland . Similar to the Street Parade in Zurich or the Love Parade in Berlin . In contrast to these two, it is a bit smaller because the event is not run commercially.

This event takes place every second year (odd), after the summer holidays on the first Saturday.

Motivations

Right from the start, Beat on the Street wanted a cultural parade with different styles of music and different cultures. For this, clubs, artists and bands had to be asked. Beat on the Street offers free music and dance between the generations of all cultures at the same time, the population is sensitized to foreign cultures and music, including cultural mediation and integration in public space.

history

The parade took place spontaneously in 1995 when about 100 people danced against the nuclear tests in France. In 1996 the first Jungle Street Groove with one car and around 300 people and in 2004 with 12 beat trucks and around 7,000 people.

In 2005 Beat on the Street, the new demonstration parade with the idea of ​​bringing together all cultures and musical styles. In 2011 the parade was represented by 15 beat trucks and 10,000 visitors. Music that was played by DJs or live on the beat trucks was BreakBeats, Funk, HipHop, Rock / Punk, often accompanied by MC (moderator).

The “BEAT ON THE STREET” parade partly consists of former co-founders of the “jungle street groove” and takes place every 2 years alternating with “jungle street groove”. “BEAT ON THE STREET” goes on in terms of content, we don't want a techno parade but rather continue to dance together with different music styles.

Meeting at Theodorsgraben / Schaffhauserrheinweg (Wettsteinplatz) 2 p.m. The parade starts at 2.30 p.m. along the banks of the Rhine to Uferstrasse / Klybeckquai, and 6.30–10 p.m. is the final event on Uferstrasse.

From 2005 to 2009, the parade participants met at 5:00 p.m. at Münsterplatz , where the parade started at 5:30 p.m. It led over the Wettstein Bridge , along the banks of the Rhine to the barracks. Due to new regulations by the city of Basel, the start of the parade in 2011 had to be moved to Theodorsgraben (beginning of the green line) on the other side of the Wettstein Bridge. The event ended at 8:30 p.m. but continued to after parties across town.

Since 2015, the route has been extended to the former Migrol site on Uferstrasse, where the trucks are allowed to play music until 10 p.m. The highlights are the bass-intensive parts of the four bridges under which the route leads.

Cleaning concept

So far, the parade has been successfully cleaned up by Us, Indian Association or Boy Scouts. The car participants were prohibited from distributing flyers and other gadgets. The last few years we have been supported, behind our cleaning crew comes the city cleaning service. New we want to sensitize visitors, we operate depot system and recycling cans and pet. So the implementation of clean and sustainable events is ensured. The area on the Uferstrasse was cleaned by ShiftMode and BotS / JSG.
