Junior Marvin
Donald Hanson Marvin Kerr Richards Jr. , better known as Junior Marvin (* 1949 in Kingston , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican guitarist and singer. Other names are Junior Kerr and Junior Hanson and the incorrect spelling Julian Marvin .
Marvin's family soon moved to England, where he started his career by making small appearances on television programs. After playing with a few smaller bands, Marvin joined the Keef Hartley Band in 1970 under the name Junior Kerr . For the first few weeks he was lead guitarist with singer Miller Anderson until he left the band. After that, Marvin was also the lead singer. With Keef Hartley's band he took the album Lancashire Hustler until Hartley disbanded the band in 1971.
Marvin later joined a band called Salt and Pepper , which he soon left to form his own band Hanson in 1973 under the name Junior Hanson . Marvin took on the part of the singer and lead guitar. They released two albums: "Now Hear This" (1973) and "Magic Dragon" (1974), until this band split up in the summer of 1974. From then on, Marvin played in various guest appearances at sessions of other musicians.
In February 1977 he became a member of Bob Marley & The Wailers under the name, which is retained to this day, Junior Marvin , where he replaced Al Anderson and Earl Smith on lead guitar. Marvin recorded the albums Exodus (1977), Kaya (1978), Survival (1979) and Uprising (1980) with Marley and the Wailers . From 1978 Marvin shared the role of lead guitarist with Anderson; both can be heard on the live album Babylon By Bus (1978).
After Marley's death in 1981, Marvin, who previously also sang in the background, took over the lead vocals of the Wailers. In 1997 he finally left the Wailers and again founded his own band, Rock Roots . In 2005 he was back on tour with the Wailers.
