Junius Brutus Booth (born May 1, 1796 in London , † November 30, 1852 near Louisville , Kentucky ) was a British actor.

Life

Booth was one of the most famous stage actors of his time.

One of his sons was the actor John Wilkes Booth , the assassin of Abraham Lincoln .

When Booth died in 1852, the poet Walt Whitman , alluding to his classic roles, wrote: There went the greatest and by far the most noble Roman of them all. (German: "There goes the greatest and by far the most noble Roman of all").
