Juridical-Political Reading Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Juridisch-Politische Leseverein founded in 1841 was an association of civil servants, lawyers and professors in Vienna.

The members considered the reading club as a discussion forum of liberal second educated society and sought in advance of the 1848 revolution a state loyal to find social consensus. At the same time, the participants and interested parties founded the citizens' petition in Vienna on March 11, 1848 . The latter was based on the demand of the lawyer Alexander von Bach for disclosure of state finances and respect for human rights . This was sent on March 11, 1848 to the committee that prepared the Lower Austrian assembly of estates .

Later, the Juridisch-Politischen Lesevereins split up, from which other legal associations were formed.

As one of the oldest associations in Austria, the Juridisch-Politische Leseverein is still active in the 21st century and publishes legal historical works and awards journalism prizes in close cooperation with the Vienna Bar Association.
