The term just-in-sequence production ( JIS ) or sequence synchronicity (= sequence-synchronous production ) describes a concept that was developed for inventory-free procurement logistics and production planning and control in the automotive industry. Due to the increasing product differentiation almost any vehicle today is configured individually and thereby obtains other components , modules and units . This is why just-in-time delivery is often no longer sufficient; rather, the delivery must be vehicle-specific and in an assembly sequence. The extension of this concept to the production areas upstream of assembly and / or to the multi-level supply chain is also known as a pearl necklace .

In providing for the JIS method which provides suppliers not only that the required modules are delivered on time in the right amount, but also that the order (Engl. Sequence right) of the required modules. JIS is mainly used in the automotive industry. The lead time is several days to a few minutes, depending on the production system. Sequence inlining systems are used to control JIS . The possible distance between supplier and customer depends on the required lead time.

The final assembly of automobiles can be considered as an example of a JIS delivery. By placing the painted bodies on the final assembly line, the sequence of the vehicles is determined, which is also known as a “pearl necklace”. If, for example, the exterior mirrors are provided by JIS delivery, they are already sorted in the order of the vehicles on the assembly line. The employee in assembly only needs to take the mirrors one after the other from the transport container and automatically has the exterior mirror in their hand in the corresponding color of the vehicle. This form of delivery is mostly used for parts that can vary greatly depending on the configuration of the vehicle to be built (see also product configuration ) - such as bumpers, vehicle seats, interior panels, doors, cockpits, etc. - since storing all variants causes too high costs and too much Would take up space.

The sorting of the delivered modules requires additional communication effort. JIS deliveries, like JIT deliveries, require direct contact between buyer and supplier, which generally already exists by means of an electronic data exchange system using the data protocols EDIFACT , Odette or VDA (for JIS in particular VDA 4916). Therefore, only one adaptation of the company software is regularly necessary.
