The Jyväsjärvi [ ˈjyvæsjærvi ] is an urban lake in Jyväskylä , Finland , north of the Päijänne . The lake is 3.3 km² in size and is 78.3 m above sea level. It has an average depth of 7 m and a maximum depth of 25 m.
Jyväsjärvi is crossed by the 480 meter long bridge to Kuokkala and the 192 meter long pedestrian bridge to Ylistö.
The lake freezes over in the winder and an ice rink is created on it. In summer, several excursion boats leave the port every day, including those to Lahti .
Jyväsjärvi is connected to Päijänne, Finland's second largest lake , by the Äijälänsalmi Canal ( 62 ° 13 ′ 44 ″ N , 25 ° 48 ′ 25 ″ E ). When the lakes were connected in the 19th century by the canal, which is now 700 meters long and 35 meters wide, the water level of Jyväsjärvi fell by about one meter and was similar to that of Päijänne.
