Koehler pond

Köhlerteich is the name of a stagnant body of water in Wernigerode am Harz . The renatured pond was part of the 2006 State Horticultural Show of Saxony-Anhalt.

history

The pond, which dates back to the Middle Ages, was used for fishing in the county of Wernigerode and to supply the Counts of Stolberg with fish. The pond was named in the 17th century after the owner family Köhler. Its original name was Marklingeröder Teich, named after the later desert area of Marklingerode, northwest of Wernigerode.
