Cologne Wine Museum

The Cologne Wine Museum in Neustadt-Nord was founded in 2010. The subject areas of the museum include viticulture , cellar technology and wine making, the terroir and facts about wine. Another point is the history of wine growing and trading in Cologne . It is the only museum of its kind in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The chairman of the museum is Markus Wittling, Dipl.-Ing. for viticulture and oenology .

Location and description

The museum is located on the northern edge of Cologne city center and is in the immediate vicinity of the Zoobrücke . On the roof, which can be walked on, there are around 40 grape varieties that can be tasted when they are ripe.

history

Originally, the Wittling family, who are still the business owners today, founded a delicatessen and grocery store in 1928. The company has specialized in the wine trade since the 1970s and finally opened the museum in 2010 as a registered association. In the same building as the wine museum there is also a wine shop run by the Wittling family.

At the opening of the wine museum, the website koeln.de wrote:

“The highlight of the facility is a visit to the vineyard, which is located on the roof of the building. There are over 40 different grape varieties on 720 vines to discover here (...) "
