Cologne sausage
The Cologne sausage was a special sausage that was invented by Konrad Adenauer in 1916 due to the shortage of meat during the First World War . It is also called Adenauer sausage .
As deputy mayor of Cologne , he was responsible for supplying the population.
The soy sausage he invented, also called peace sausage, was a solid topping of soy and spices. With the high protein content of soy, the protein in the flour should be replaced. The process for improving the taste of protein-rich and fatty vegetable meals and for the production of sausage could not be patented in Germany, but only in England , Belgium , Denmark , Switzerland , the Netherlands and Austria . The soy sausage was not compatible with German food regulations .
Adenauer was the grandson and great-grandson of a Bonn family of bakers . Together with the Rheinische Brotfabrik , he developed a bread made from corn, barley and rice flour as well as bran as early as 1915 .
