The Royal Palace ( English Royal Palace ) refers to two palaces of the King of Lesotho . One has been in use since the 1970s and the palace that replaces it has been under construction since 2011.

Current palace

The current royal palace ( 29 ° 37 ′ 9.6 ″  S , 27 ° 33 ′ 55.1 ″  E ) was built in 1975/76 and is located in Matsieng , about 40 kilometers south of the capital Maseru .

New palace

Since 2011 a new royal palace has been built in Maseru. Its completion was scheduled for 2013, but was then postponed to April 2018. To date (November 2019) the palace, the construction costs of which are initially given as 160-200 million Maloti and now 450-500 million Maloti, has not been completed. The last time the architects withdrew from the project was in 2018.

The palace is a modern three-story building with a glass dome and a large swimming pool .
