Two maloti coin

The Loti , plural: Maloti , is the currency of Lesotho . 1 Loti is divided into 100 Lisente , singular: Sente (abbreviation: s ). The ISO code is LSL. The name Loti comes from the word leloti for "mountain" in the Sesotho language .

The loti was introduced in January 1980, 14 years after Lesotho's independence from the United Kingdom .

Until his death in 1996, King Moshoeshoe II was portrayed on the banknotes, since then the "founding father" of the Basotho , Moshoeshoe I.
