The Rwandan Franc is the currency of Rwanda in East Africa . It is divided into 100 centimes , although coins with a value below 1 franc are not issued. It is abbreviated with F.Rw or according to ISO 4217 with RWF.

Coins to the value of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 francs as well as banknotes to the value of 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 francs are issued.

In Kigali and the other major cities, you can pay with both US dollars and Rwandan francs. In the country, however, it remains the only valid means of payment.

All banknotes issued before 2004 became invalid on January 1, 2010.
