The Burundi Franc is the currency of Burundi . It is divided into 100 centimes , but this unit is rarely used. The most common sizes range from 100 to 5000 francs.

Coins and bills

There are coins of the nominal values 1 and 5 francs and banknotes of the values 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10,000 Francs outputted (updated 2005). Since 2011 there have been coins of 10 and 50 francs.

The coins of 1 and 5 francs are aluminum coins with the coat of arms of Burundi on the reverse. The banknotes from 500 francs have watermarks, an integrated metal thread and, in some cases, a hologram and, under UV lighting, a reflective element.
